At All Times

“I WILL bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord.”

(Psalm 34:1-2, NKJV)

Perhaps you’ve heard the saying: “God is good all the time; and all the time, God is good.” And it’s true. God is good all the time. There is never a time He isn’t, because it’s His nature and character. He’s the definition of good. It’s who He is.

I love that this verse above speaks to blessing the Lord at all times. That’s what it means—in every moment, season, and circumstance. There is always something to thank the Lord for. Does that mean difficult, trying times as well? Yes. Walking with the Lord is an invitation into a life transformed, and one of those areas is perspective. Living with Jesus is an invitation to put on a different set of lenses. What is incredibly beautiful about the Kingdom of God is that even in the midst of trial and opposition, there is treasure to be found. There are redemptive purposes being birthed. God is using it all for good.

There is something powerful about releasing praise to God in the midst of challenges. When we begin to thank and bless Him in the middle of our hardships, trials turn into great blessings, because through them, we understand we are being strengthened and trained up in Him. Our faith is being made mature. We are becoming perfected. A posture of thanksgiving in the midst of hardship causes our faith to grow and strengthen.

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” (James 1:2-3)

When we begin to take on this posture of praising God in the midst of our trials, we become transformed and our experience of our situations transform. There is His peace instead of anxiety. There is His joy instead of heaviness. We are so carried and our lives are so certain in Him, what would happen if we stepped into and lived from the full reality of it? I want that.

“I will bless the Lord at all times.” May this be declaration for our lives and truth we cling to. God is good and all that we walk through, He will use for good. May His praise continually be on our lips.
