Savoring the Journey

Savor the journey.

I recently saw this hashtag pop up in my Instagram feed (haha, yay for the Instagram age), and this morning, it's finding a resting place on my heart as an invitation to open. What does it mean to really savor the journey God has us on?

I feel like the very essence of the word "journey" necessitates time. An unfolding. Discovery. But how often do we live our lives rushed, striving for instant gratification, under the fear that the things God has said won't really happen?

Timelines are something God and I have been dialoguing a lot about lately, and I am ever more settling and resting into the truth that He has the details and the seemingly crazy impossibles already figured out. It's always been head knowledge, but it's growing into the soil of my heart as a root system. You know, like really believing it. (grateful to the Gardener!) My position is to remain close to Him and to enjoy Him. Instead of focusing on events--the whens, the hows, the happenings--my position is to focus on His heart. He will tell me when to speak, when to move. He will open doors in the right timing. He will be faithful. He knows no other way.

As I journey further in my relationship with Jesus, I realize more and more that the meat of life is made up in the simple moments and simply knowing and being known by Him. There's nothing like sitting on my couch, drinking a cup of coffee, and hearing His voice pour out words of encouragement and revelation over my heart. There's nothing better than, "Here. This is for you. Because, I know how much you love it, and I love you." It's being known. The essence of life is relationship, and the most important interaction we have on a daily basis is that of our relationship with God. He is the only One who knows us fully and the One who will unconditionally champion us to the end. Basking in this love is where we will find true fulfillment and is the centerpiece of the journey.

Friends, we don't have to strive for our destiny. We don't have to strive to make things happen in our lives. Our Father has the very best for us in mind. The best part is, on our journey, what He cares for most is our heart. There, He desires to grow us and meet us in the deep places, where true rest and fulfillment take root. He desires to teach us, mature us, transform us, reveal His heart, and friends, isn't that one of the most beautiful gifts we could ask for? Wholeness? So that when God opens doors, we are rooted and grounded? God's way in God's timing. It's such a gift. Always better, always more grand.

Allowing Jesus to unfold our journey brings Him glory. In this place, there is no striving, no pressure, no anxiety--simply trusting His heart, savoring His goodness, and enjoying Him in every heartbeat of life. His glory is wrapped up in so many every day moments, but are the eyes of our hearts trained to see it?

I invite you into the conversation. How has God spoken to you about enjoying the journey and resting in His unfolding? May your day be filled with His glory. May our chief pursuit be to know and enjoy Him.

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4
